Sylvia Elder

Retired High School Counselor

I chose to be a Scholars Program Advisor because . . .

it seemed like a natural thing for me to do, having spent most of my career talking with and counseling students about their present and future goals.

The challenges of serving as an Advisor include . . .

trying to schedule time to meet with my Scholar that does not conflict with her desire to become more involved in her university community.

The rewards of serving as an Advisor include . . .

watching my Scholar as she maneuvers around the highs and lows of college life. I feel fortunate to have been assigned a Scholar who has her priorities in order. In her first two semesters, she has realized how she must change and adjust her priorities on the way to achieving her goal, especially when things do not go as planned. My Scholar is always thinking. She is a delightful young lady who I have little doubt will accomplish all she has set out for herself.

Support a scholar, today.
